Darke Co.
toddler found face down in pool
DARKE COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities said a 1-year-old was left unattended
in a pool and nearly drowned Sunday night in Greenville Township.
Emergency responders were called to 5341 Warvel Road when the couple
who lives in the house reported that the child was drowning in the
family pool, the Greenville Township Rescue Squad said. CareFlight was
called to the scene and took the child to Dayton Children’s Hospital
with non-life threatening injuries.
Family members told News Center 7’s John Bedell that the mother of the
child, Lyndal Klosterman, was looking for the child when she found her
face down in the pool. Family members said they are not how child got
there. Firefighters said the girl was underwater for at least 4 minutes
before her aunt, Janel Tumbush, pulled her out of the water and
performed CPR.
“She had thrown up and started taking a breath,” said Tumbush. “It was
awesome, just hearing her cry was a good thing. It was really awesome.”
The incident is being considered accidental, and the child’s parents
are not facing charges.
