Injury accident
breaks gas line, shuts down 127
On November 13, 2012 at 5:22 am Darke County Deputies along with
Arcanum Rescue and New Madison Fire Department responded to a single
vehicle injury accident at US 127 north of Hogpath Road, Greenville
Ohio.
Preliminary investigation revealed a red 1998 Ford sedan was traveling
north bound on US 127 drove off the right side of the roadway striking
an above ground gas line. The driver of the vehicle was identified as
Jesse Simpson, 24, of West Alexandria Ohio. Simpson was transported to
Reed Hospital in Richmond Indiana with minor injuries.
The gas line was broken at the base causing gas to be released. The
residence at 4527 US 127 Greenville Ohio was evacuated by deputies due
to the gas line break. US 127 was closed due to the gas leak. Vectren
Gas Company also responded to the scene to secure the broken gas line.
US 127 between Hogpath road and US 36 west was closed for approximately
2 hours.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s
Office.
