mortgage settlement funds

Thousands
of Ohio residents who
lost their homes to foreclosure in the past three years may be eligible
for
payment from a national mortgage bank settlement.
Under
the $25 billion National
Mortgage Foreclosure settlement, 64,428 Ohio borrowers who lost their
home to
foreclosure between Jan. 1, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2011, will soon receive
claim
forms for payments of at least $840.
The
settlement affects borrowers
who had mortgages with Ally/GMAC, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase
and
Wells Fargo.
“This
payment is intended as
partial compensation for the illegal conduct of the mortgage
servicers,” said
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.
“Borrowers
don’t have to give up
their legal rights to participate. They are free to participate in this
settlement and also pursue other legal remedies for the loss of their
home if
they choose.”
Borrowers
must return the claims by
Jan. 18, 2013 to receive payment.
