Supreme Court
Justice
Robert Cupp is seeking
re-election to Ohio’s highest court.
Robert Cupp has served as a justice on
the Supreme Court of Ohio since
January, 2007.
Much
of Justice Cupp’s 30-year
legal career has been committed to effective public service. Prior to his
election to the Supreme Court,
he served as a judge on the 3rd District Court of Appeals; as a State
Senator
for 16 years, including two terms as the President Pro Tem, the
Senate’s 2nd
highest leader; as a Lima city prosecutor and assistant director of
law; and
was twice was elected an Allen County commissioner.
In
addition, Justice Cupp engaged
in the private practice of law in Lima for more than 25 years. He is a member of the Allen
County and Ohio
State Bar Associations. He co-authored the book, [Legal] Ethics and
Discipline
in Ohio, published by the Ohio State Bar Foundation in 1977. He currently chairs the
Ohio State Bar
Association’s Judicial Administration and Legal Reform Committee.
Justice
Cupp twice received the
Ohio State Bar Association’s Distinguished Service Award and is the
recipient
of the State 4-H Alumni Award. He is a past president of the 13-county
Black
Swamp Area Boy Scout Council. He
has
taught judicial process and leadership studies at Ohio Northern
University as a
visiting professor.
Bob
was born in rural Allen County
and grew up on his family’s farm. He earned his political science
degree with
high distinction from Ohio Northern University in 1973, where he served
as
president of the student senate. He earned his law degree from Ohio
Northern’s
College of Law in 1976.
Justice
Cupp’s wife, Libby, is an
educator. They have two grown sons, Matthew and Ryan, both of whom are
Eagle
Scouts.
