Ohio
Governor John Kasich
Supreme
Court applicants sought
COLUMBUS
– Today Gov. John R.
Kasich announced that from Oct. 15 to Nov. 16 he will accept
applications from
attorneys who would like to be considered for appointment to the
Supreme Court
of Ohio to replace Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton. Justice Stratton
announced
on May 22 that she would retire at the end of the year before her term
expires
in 2014. The
application and additional
information will be available at http://governor.ohio.gov/supremecourt
starting
at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. Kasich
has
said he would like to announce an appointment by the end of the year,
but will
take whatever time is needed to carefully evaluate candidates and make
the
right decision.
Additionally,
Kasich announced that
he and his staff will evaluate applicants with input from several
distinguished
legal professionals from across the state:
Jonathan
Adler of Cleveland
(Cuyahoga Co.) is the inaugural Johan Verheij Memorial Professor of Law
and
Director of the Center for Business Law & Regulation at the
Case Western
Reserve University School of Law. He has been a professor at the law
school
since 2001. He is a past-recipient of the Paul M. Bator Award, given
annually
by the Federalist Society for Law and Policy Studies for excellence in
teaching, scholarship and commitment to students. Professor Adler
received his
law degree from George Mason University School of Law.
Charles
Brown of Alliance (Stark
Co.) recently announced his retirement from the Stark County Court of
Common
Pleas, where he served as a judge for 11 years.
Previously he was the senior partner at
Brown, Lundgren &
Goldthorpe. Judge Brown has 45 years of service to the legal profession
and
received his law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of
Law.
Karen
Gallagher of Bryan (Williams
Co.) is a partner at Gallagher & Yosick where she specializes
in a number
of legal matters including domestic relations and family Law. She is a past-president of
the Williams
County Bar Association and currently chairs the Association’s Domestic
Relations Committee. Gallagher
received
her law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law.
Clarence
Mingo of Columbus
(Franklin Co.) is the Franklin County Auditor.
He previously worked in private practice
where he specialized in
domestic and juvenile law, frequently serving as guardian ad litem on
behalf of
children who had been abused or neglected.
Auditor Mingo received his law degree
from The Ohio State University
Moritz College of Law.
Douglas
Neary of Cleveland
(Cuyahoga Co.) has been a partner at Calfee, Halter & Griswold
since 1993,
where he specializes in corporate governance, securities law compliance
and
commercial finance. He serves on several corporate and foundation
boards in the
Greater Cleveland area and received his law degree from the Boston
University
School of Law.
Marshal
Pitchford of Akron (Summit
Co.) is a partner at Roetzel & Andress.
Pitchford
was named a leading
expert in transportation law by Best Lawyers in America and is chairman
of the
board of Ohio Right to Life. He
is a
graduate of the University of Akron School of Law.
Alex
Triantafilou of Cincinnati
(Hamilton Co.) is a member of the Litigation Department and is Of
Counsel at
Dinsmore & Shohl. He is chairman of the Hamilton County
Republican Party
and previously served as a judge in the Hamilton County Court of Common
Pleas
and the Hamilton County Municipal Court.
Triantafilou received his law degree
from the Northern Kentucky
University Chase College of Law.
