Arcanum - On September 28, 2012 at approximately 11:44 a.m. Darke
County Deputies, along with Arcanum Fire, Arcanum Rescue and Bradford
Rescue were dispatched to Hogpath Rd. at Arcanum Bears Mill Rd. in
reference to a two vehicle injury accident.
Preliminary investigation showed that a 1993 Buick, operated by Heather
L. Brown (40) of Hollansburg, was eastbound on Hogpath Rd. and had
stopped at the four way stop at Arcanum Bears Mill Rd. Brown’s
vehicle then started to pull through the intersection when it was
struck by a 2000 Mitsubishi, box truck, driven by Shane L. Mohler (25)
of Brookville, OH, which was southbound on Arcanum Bears Mill Rd.
Mohler swerved to try and miss Brown’s vehicle, but struck the front
left side of Brown’s vehicle causing it to spin around and go off the
west side of the roadway on Arcanum Bears Mill Rd. Brown’s
vehicle then overturned in the side ditch coming to final rest on its
top. When Mohler’s vehicle swerved to miss Brown’s vehicle he
side swiped a 2005 Mercury, driven by Phyllis J. Boone (71) of
Covington, OH, which was northbound on Arcanum Bears Mill Rd.
Brown had her two children, Foster Brown (9) and Stewart Brown (5),
with her. Brown and her two children were treated at the scene by
Arcanum Rescue and Bradford Rescue. Brown’s two children were
transported by Arcanum Rescue to Wayne Hospital. Brown was
transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. Mohler and
Boone both refused treatment at the scene. The condition of Brown
and her two children is unknown at this time.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s
Office. Mohler is being charged with Failure to Yield at a stop
sign.
