Darke County Republican Mens Club...
Kasich Liaison Sandra Brassington speaks to GOP Men
By Lyn Bliss

"I've never seen a more principled man that understands what needs to be done, and puts his head to it and gets it done." said Sandra Brassington, Southwest Ohio Regional Liaison for Governor John R. Kasich as she spoke about the Governor and the job he has been doing.

Brassington also discussed local revenue cuts and praised local office holders on county, township and municipal levels for the job they have been doing to consolidate and streamline services to the residents -- all aimed at saving the taxpayers money. This has been a necessity since the current government was faced with a multi-billion dollar state debt and 98 cents left in the "rainy-day" fund.

"There is only so much money, they are all looking at ways they can streamline their services and save money." continued Brassington.

The workforce training program has seen a major over-haul by this government. There were 77 different workforce programs in 13 state agencies when Governor Kasich took office.

"If you, as as business owner or elected official, wanted to find out about how you became eligible for some workforce dollars, you had to figure out which one of those 77 programs you wanted, or which one of the 13 agencies you are going to go to,. Quite frankly, I think a lot of people just gave up." explained Brassington. "The Governor has brought on Rich Fredericks, and he is head of Workforce Transformation.  First of all he took all 77 different programs and put them into two different agencies. You can go to those and from there you should have easy access to the programs that make sense for whatever you are working with."

Another innovation in Ohio is the workforce planning program. Employers are being asked for projections of workforce needs -- numbers and skills. With this information, programs can be put into place to make sure Ohio has trained people to perform those jobs. This will be part of the Jobs Ohio program and will most likely be split into two regions and roll out before the end of the year.

Governor Kasich is working on education reform at the college level. One of his first steps was to call all presidents of Ohio Colleges together to work on the problems.

"All the college presidents were around the table and the Governor said you've got to figure out how to do your funding, there's only so many dollars. And, they are working it out." reported Brassington.

Questions regarding gas extraction in Ohio were asked, and Brassington said it is going very well and that there is a need for housing and other services in the area where this new gas extraction business is booming.

The next meeting of the Darke County Republican Men's Club will begin at 8 a.m. on October 20 at the Staff Cafeteria of the Brethren Home Retirement Community. The local Republican Candidates who will be appearing on the November 6 ballot have been invited to address the group.
