Presidential Tracking Poll
SWING STATE DAILY TRACKING: Obama 45%, Romney
45%
Saturday, September 01, 2012
The
Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential
Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from
47% of
voters nationwide, while President Obama earns 44% of the vote. Four
percent
(4%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
As
expected, Romney is enjoying a modest bounce
from the past week's Republican National Convention. He trailed the
president
by two when the convention began and is up by three today. See daily
tracking
history. He also has gained ground in the swing state tracking results
updated
daily for subscribers at 10:00 a.m. Eastern.
It
will take a few more days to fully measure
the bounce. This update is based on nightly interviews and reported on
a
three-day rolling average basis. As a result, roughly two-thirds of the
interviews were conducted before Romney’s speech to the convention
Thursday night.
Next week is Obama’s convention which should produce its own bounce.
Barring
something unusual next week in Charlotte, we won’t really know which
convention
produced the bigger bounce until about a week after the Democratic
National
Convention.
While
the conventions produce short-lived
bounces for the campaigns, Scott Rasmussen notes that for many
Americans the
conventions “provide a stark reminder of how out of touch our political
system
has become.” He
adds, “A half-century
ago, conventions mattered because they actually selected presidential
candidates. Today, they only serve to remind us that what interests --
and
entertains -- the political class has little to do with what America
needs.”
One
week from today, What America Thinks will
debut on more than 50 television stations across the country. The
nationally
syndicated weekly show will be hosted by Scott Rasmussen and focus on
public
opinion rather than Political Class preferences. The entire Rasmussen
Reports
team has been hard at work getting a great guest line-up for opening
day. Find
stations in your area that will carry the show.

A
president’s job approval rating is one of the
best indicators for assessing his chances of reelection. Typically, the
president’s job approval rating on Election Day will be close to the
share of
the vote he receives. Currently, 48% of voters say they at least
somewhat
approve of the president's job performance. Fifty-two percent (52%) at
least
somewhat disapprove of the job Obama is doing (see trends).
Forty-four
percent (44%) of voters now see
Obama as Very Liberal, and 30% see Romney as Very Conservative.
Still,
just 35% give Obama good or excellent
marks for his handling of the economy.
Forty-four percent (44%) believe he’s
doing a poor job.
Forty-eight
percent (48%) trust Romney more
than Obama on the election’s top issue, the economy.
Forty-four percent (44%) trust the
president
more. The good news for Romney is that he still has the edge on this
issue. The
good news for Obama is that Romney’s advantage has been shrinking over
the last
few months.
