Attorney General DeWine Announces
Guilty
Verdict in Patient Abuse Case
(TOLEDO,
Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike
DeWine today announced that a Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury has
returned
a guilty verdict in the case of a former nurse's aide accused of
abusing a
patient.
Tacarra
Bryson was convicted of one felony
count of patient abuse.
The
31-year-old was working at Liberty West
Nursing Center in Toledo when she engaged in an altercation with a
patient in
February 2012. The aide was convicted of throwing the patient
to the
ground and punching her in the head.
"We
are pleased with the jury's decision
today to find this defendant guilty. There is never an excuse
for
striking a patient," said Attorney General DeWine.
The
case was prosecuted by attorneys with the
Attorney General's Health Care Fraud Division.
Bryson
is no longer employed by the nursing
facility.
Sentencing
is scheduled for May 15, 2013.
