One person injured in tractor accident
On August 8, 2013 at approximately 10:53 AM Darke County Deputies along
with Greenville Township Fire & Rescue responded to 8880 State
Route 49 on a report of an injury tractor accident with the operator
trapped under the tractor.
Preliminary investigation revealed Walter E. Hixenbaugh 78, Greenville,
was operating a 1944 2N Ford tractor and was attempting to pull a Chevy
pick up truck with a tow strap over a railroad tie which was in the
yard of the property and the trucks rear wheels became lodged on the
railroad tie, causing the tractor to continue pulling and flipping over
on top of Mr. Hixenbaugh and trapping him for a short period of
time. Two family members were able to free Mr. Hixenbaugh and
pull him out from under the tractor.
CareFlight was originally called to the scene but was unable to
respond, Mr. Hixenbaugh was transported to WayneHealth Care by
Greenville Township Rescue and then transported to Miami Valley
Hospital by their Mobile Intensive Care Unit. Mr.
Hixenbaugh is currently listed in stable condition.
