Troy to relax alcohol laws

When
a Grammy Award-winning musical
group promises to bring 25,000 people and dump $13 million into your
economy,
you make a few concessions.
That’s
what the city of Troy will
be doing this weekend as it allows, for the first time, alcohol to be
sold and
consumed in its downtown, the river corridor and park area, as well as
in Troy
Memorial Stadium for the Mumford & Sons Gentlemen of the Road
festival.
Mayor
Michael Beamish said the
alcohol sales, which will be regulated by the event staff, are an
essential
aspect to the economic impact of the event, and will provide a big
boost to
local vendors.
“Troy
has never had – and may never
have again – a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity such as this one to
highlight Troy, our people and our community,” Beamish said. “I remain
committed to Troy’s family-friendly culture and values but I recognize
that
this event promises to showcase Troy in its most positive light and
will be an
experience never to be forgotten.”
Beamish
contacted city officials of
Dixon, Ill., and Bristol, Tenn. — which both hosted the festival in
2012 — who
relayed that both communities were impressed with the thoroughness and
professionalism shown in their communities…
