Take Down Marijuana Grow Operation

Officers from the Union City, IN Police Department served a search
warrant at a local residence late Monday afternoon, taking down a
significant sized marijuana grow operation. The couple living at the
residence was taken into custody on several drug related charges.
On Monday,July 29, 2013, officers from the UCPD arrived at 331 Clifford
Street to execute a search warrant at the property. The search warrant
was the final product from a lengthy drug investigation that involved
several officers from the department.When officers approached the
property they could smell the odor of raw marijuana. Detective Chad
Puterbaugh stated, “After we entered the house, it didn’t take long for
officers to start complaining of headaches from the overwhelming
smell.” The occupants at the property were identified as Billy
J.Thompson, (45 y/o), and Stacy R. Thompson, (44 y/o).
During the search officers located a large grow operation. Officers
confiscated 27 marijuana plants, grow lights, bags of marijuana, items
of paraphernalia, and various other items associated with a grow
operation. The approximate street value for the marijuana recovered is
between $12,000 to $15,000. “It’s a great feeling, knowing that we
prevented this large amount of drugs from reaching our streets,” said
Captain Bill Bradbury.
Both Thompson subjects were transported to the Randolph County Jail on
the charges of manufacturing marijuana, (a class C felony), possession
of marijuana, (aclass D felony), maintaining a common nuisance, (a
class D felony), and reckless possession of paraphernalia, (a class A
misdemeanor).
