Darke County looks to create manufacturing training center

Greenville
City Schools is looking to the state to fund a new $1.5 million
center for manufacturing training.
The
district has applied for $1.5 million in state capital budget money
to completely fund a 4,000-square-foot addition to school’s career
technology facility, which would include a computer lab and a space
for equipment training, said Dave Peltz, career technical director
for Greenville City Schools. The state funding would pay for building
two new classrooms and buying the necessary equipment, he said.
Manufacturing
is the largest employer in Darke County as well as most of the
surrounding counties, and efforts to train workforce could impact
business retention and expansion. The project would also provide work
for builders and contractors, as well as equipment providers.
The
project is part of a collaboration with Partnering for Progress,
Darke County’s economic development group, said director Marc
Saluk. The workforce center has been in the works for some time, he
said, and other programs may be considered.
Tentatively
titled the Darke County Workforce Center, the school says the project
could train 500 new employees and retrain 150 employees in the first
five years, and double both of those numbers in 10 years. The school
already has begun offering adult education classes, recently a State
Tested Nursing Assistant, or STNA, course...
