to UC grads: Make difference in someone's life

Gov. John Kasich had a simple message for University of Cincinnati
graduates Saturday: Help others.
“Fame,
it’s fleeting. Power, it disappears,” Kasich told the crowd
inside Fifth Third Arena. “You know what doesn’t? The way you
engage in changing the world.
“Deep
down inside, know that you are making a difference in someone else’s
life,” he added. “You’ll never fail if you follow that advice.”
Kasich’s
speech was standard graduation fare, short on policy and long on
self-deprecating jokes, entertaining stories of his childhood in
Pennsylvania and exhortations to graduates to help make the world a
better place. He included a story about how he talked his way into
seeing Ohio State University’s president as a freshman, then
leveraged that into a trip to the Oval Office to meet President
Richard Nixon.
Universities
all around the region held their fall semester graduations this week,
including the College of Mount St. Joseph on Thursday, Miami
University on Friday and Northern Kentucky University on Saturday. At
NKU, 1,400 graduated, including summer grads. About 800 walked in the
