Greenville Police Beat
Lying to police leads to additional charge

GREENVILLE - On Dec. 2 police stopped Tamara Swartz for speeding on Chestnut at Oak Street. Swartz said she had an emergency and needed to get her son to the hospital because he’d had a seizure. Swartz refused an offer of an ambulance and advised she was going straight to the hospital. She was issued a warning and sent on her way. The officer then noticed Swartz went down Martz instead of Sherman so he checked and observed Swartz turn toward Fair Street instead of the hospital. About 10 minutes later the officer saw Swartz pull into Family Health. The officer stopped her again. Swartz said she went to the hospital but they advised her to go to her family doctor. When asked if this was a scheduled appointment Swartz said no. The officer went to Wayne Emergency; they were not aware of any visit from Swartz. Family Health advised the officer that Swartz had a scheduled appointment. She was issued a citation for speeding and one for falsification for misleading the officer.

ASSAULT / DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

On Dec. 3 police were dispatched to 307 1/2 N. Main St. regarding an assault complaint. The victim, Jason Landis, told police he was assaulted by his live-in Shanna Cates, her son Zachary Wilkerson and his friend Justin Dispennette. Landis had several marks on his face and a swollen left eye. He complained of possible broken ribs and had marks on his side and back. Landis said he and Cates started arguing when he wanted her to move out but she eventually started packing and got Wilkerson and Dispennette to help. Landis believed they had drugs on them and told them to leave. They went to the car but decided to return. Landis told them no. They allegedly got mad and attacked him. When he fell to the ground Cates allegedly began kicking him. Wilkerson and Dispennette were cited for assault; Cates was arrested for domestic violence and transported to Darke County Jail.

OPEN CONTAINER

Ashley Lutz and Brad Smith were observed walking behind 930 Gray Ave. Lutz dropped a Bud Light 12 ounce beer can in an attempt to get it out of her possession. The can was still about a quarter full. She was issued a misdemeanor citation for open container and due to her apparent state of intoxication, police drove her home.

Fletcher was discovered to have an active warrant out of Mercer County for Failure to Appear on criminal damaging. She was arrested and transported to the Mercer County line where she was taken into custody.

On Dec. 1 police were dispatched to the Holiday Inn regarding a suspicious female using a credit card number without the credit card. She was identified as Elizabeth Whitley who had an active felony warrant out of Darke County Sheriff’s Office for theft of blank checks. She was arrested and transported to the Darke County Jail.
