Greenville Police Beat
Shoplifting at Walmart and assault at a local restaurant

GREENVILLE - On Dec. 18 police responded to Walmart regarding a suspect, Joshua Johnson. The suspect walked into Walmart through the general merchandise door, put two Shark bagless upright carpet cleaners in a cart and pushes it outside without paying for them. A Loss Prevention employee chased Johnson, telling him to stop. Johnson abandoned the cart and ran into JC Penney’s where he exited through rear doors before officers could find him. He was identified on surveillance video and will be cited for theft.

WARRANTS

On Dec. 12 police were dispatched to 451 E. Main St. for Scott Williams, who had a bench warrant out of Montgomery County for probation violation. He was arrested and transported to Darke County Jail.

On Dec. 6, police were dispatched to 527 Sweitzer St. regarding an anonymous tip that Kyle Cross, wanted by the City of Greenville, was there. Cross was arrested on the warrant, failure to appear, based upon an original charge of possessing drug abuse instruments, and transported to Darke County Jail.

ASSAULT

On Dec. 5 police were dispatched to Maid-Rite regarding a customer who got upset over a mistake in his order and began yelling and cursing at the manager on duty, along with others in the building. The family member who runs the restaurant, Mark Koontz, told the police he was following the customer out the back door when the suspect turned around and started pushing Koontz all the way across the building to the front. He then left the area. The suspect was in his 60’s, had a beard or gotee, gray hair and was heavy set. The suspect was identified based upon his vehicle license and will be cited for disorderly conduct pending confirmation of location and identification.

OVI / ACDA

On Dec. 12 police were dispatched to the area of Washington Avenue and Walker Street regarding an accident with injury. The suspect was sitting in his vehicle southbound on Washington with the front air-bags deployed. The defendant had rear-ended a parked vehicle in front of 504 Washington. Following the first collision his vehicle collided with another vehicle. The defendant refused medical treatment. The officer noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and had slurred speech and red, bloodshot eyes. He did poorly on the field tests, was arrested for OVI and transported to the police department for a breath test. He tested negative for alcohol, but agreed to submit a urine sample. It will be analyzed at the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab. The defendant will be charged for ACDA (assured clear distance ahead) once the lab results are received. Depending on the results, the driver may also be charged with OVI.

VANDALISM

On Oct. 26 police were dispatched to 107 Hilltop regarding vandalism. The victim, Sharecce Kenworthy reported the side entry door to her garage had been damaged. There were no signs of entry. The owner and landlord of the residence, Barbara Brickler, didn’t request a police report at the time but called to request the report on Dec. 10. There are no suspects.
