GREENVILLE
– Following the Greenville City School Board’s Dec. 12 regular
meeting the board, staff and administration hosted a “thank you”
buffet with a parting gift for retiring board members Ben Studabaker,
Sue Bowman and Cindy Scott.
A
variety of delicacies were prepared and served by the high school’s
hospitality students.
District
Superintendent Doug Fries said it is with “great honor” that we
recognize (these individuals) “for their dedication and support of
our district through their tenure as board members.
“They
have set aside countless hours from their personal lives for the good
of our community and students. They are truly a source of pride for
our District. Thank you to each of them for their service.”
Board
member Fred Matix acknowledged it’s easy to criticize but there are
always two sides to the story.
“Let
me tell you Cindy, Sue and Ben have their heart in the right place
for the students, parents, classified and certified staff,
administration and taxpayers. We will miss the 26 years of experience
on the Board that has helped make Greenville Schools what it is today
and always striving to make it better educationally.”
“I
want to thank you for the time and commitment you have given our
school system. Many times you, as Board members, have put the
educational and school concerns, issues and meetings before your
family. Thanks to your families for being a big supporter of you and
sharing you.
“You
are still an integral part of the Green Wave Pride in this school
system and community.”
In
other business Supt. Fries commended the junior high vocal music
students, fifth and sixth grade band students and the Wavaires for
excellent performances; the junior high NJROTC cadets for a
successful pass and review, and the senior high varsity cheerleaders
for their first place win in the GWOC North Competition.
The
ballot language for the District’s proposed tax levy (renewal) to
be presented to the voters on May 6, 2014 was approved.
Donations
totaling nearly $5,600 for various District departments and programs
were accepted with appreciation.
Matix
was approved as President Pro-tempore for the Board’s
organizational meeting Jan. 9, 2014, 6 p.m.
