Human
resources professionals say companies
have a purpose to asking crazy questions. They want to see if a job
candidate
can think on their feet.
“Hiring
managers are using these questions to
go beyond the resume and find the better fit candidates for their
organization,” said Amanda Lachapelle, director of HR and talent
acquisition at
Glassdoor. “As the war for talent continues, more employers seem to be
asking
tough questions to help influence them to make the right hiring
decisions.”
The
worst thing an interviewee can do,
according to Lachapelle, is give is a short response with no
explanation or say
‘I don’t know.’
“When
answering tough questions, take your
time, ask the interview questions if need be, show you personality, and
how you
can problem solve out loud,” she said.
Carrie
Brunello,
co-owner of Tipp City-based 11th Hour Staffing Inc., said the most
important
factor when going into an interview is to be prepared to answer
“traditional”
questions, have a three to five liner “sales pitch” on yourself and a
few
interesting facts about yourself that you can throw out if faced with
an odd
question.
