Mercer
County
27-day-old
infant dead, 4-month-old baby
injured
Celina,
OH - Mercer County Sheriff Jeff
Grey this morning announced his office is investigating two unrelated
incidents
involving children.
On
Saturday July 20, 2013, at 7:18
PM the Sheriff’s Office received a call from Children’s
Medical Center in
Dayton Ohio in reference to suspicious injuries to a 4 month old
baby.
The baby’s mother had transported the child to Joint Township St. Marys
Hospital
and was later transferred to Dayton. The investigation
revealed the child
was in the care of the mother’s boyfriend at the time the injuries were
sustained. The boyfriend initially reported he had fallen
while holding
the baby, but his account of what happened did not match the injuries
to the
child.
Taken
into custody and charged with felonious
assault was 28 year old John Dziengelewski of 2115 State Route 29,
Celina
Ohio. Mr. Dziengelewski was taken to Montgomery County Jail,
where he
waived extradition and was transported to the Mercer County Adult
Detention
Facility. Bond was set at two hundred fifty thousand dollars
by Municipal
Court Judge James Scheer.
Deputies
also applied for and were granted a
search warrant for the residence at 2115 State Route 29 where the
assault had
taken place.
On
Sunday July 22, 2013, at 8:04 AM, the
Sheriff’s Office received a call from Mercer Health in Coldwater of an
infant
that was brought into the emergency room unresponsive. The infant was
not able
to be resuscitated, and was pronounced dead. The infant Aidyn Kitchen,
was 27
days old. The infant was transported to the ER by his mother who is
under the
age of 18, and his father 18 year old Dustin R. Kitchen of 3344 St
Anthony
Road, Celina Ohio.
Detectives
are investigating the circumstances
surrounding the death of the child, and an autopsy was ordered by
Mercer County
Coroner Dr. Timothy Heinrichs. No other information is being
released.
