GREENVILLE
– Three Darke County employees
walked over a million “steps” during the Spring “Activity” Challenge
that was
offered to all employees.
At
the June 3 meeting of the Darke County
Commissioners, Business Administrator John Cook said 107 participants
started
out on April 3, National Walking Day. Fifty one finished six weeks
later on May
15. The challenge was to start at 5,000 steps a day and work up to
10,000 steps
a day by week six. The goal over the period was 315,000 steps.
Jennifer
Barga took first place with 1,461,053
steps. Kari Shuttleworth took second with 1,281,158 steps. Elizabeth
Farver
came in third with 1,192,508. All are Darke County Health Department
employees.
Winners
were awarded $300, $200 and $100
respectively. According to the Activity Challenge sheet, the names of
three
participants who met the weekly goals will be drawn for a $100 prize.
In
official business, Darke County Commissioners
approved two bids. The first was to Brumbaugh Construction for the
Village of
Pitsburg for a restroom renovation at its community center. The amount
of the
bid was $20,540. The second was to Walls Brothers Asphalt for the
Village of
Wayne Lakes South Creek and Rescue Drives improvement project for
$33,575.
The
motions were to accept “lowest bid with
intent to award contract.”
A
right-of-way lying west of U.S. 127 in the
area of Oliver Road was abandoned by the State of Ohio and accepted by
the
commissioners for the public convenience or welfare. The Board
designated it to
become part of the County and Township road system. Darke County
Commissioner
Mike Stegall said the Township is – and has been – maintaining the
1.374 acre
right-of-way.
