Boehner Congratulates Winners of
2013 Congressional Art
Competition
WASHINGTON,
D.C. – Today, Congressman John Boehner (R-West
Chester) congratulated Sara Thompson on winning the Eighth District
grand prize
in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition.
This yearly competition invites high
school students from congressional
districts across the country to submit artwork for their district-wide
competitions. Artwork from this year’s competition was mounted in the
U.S.
Capitol this morning for the thousands of visitors to enjoy.
Eighth
District grand prize winner Sara Thompson described her
winning artwork, entitled “The Man in Black,” as “a scratchboard of a
man,
beautifully rim lit.” Sara
is a senior
at Miami Valley Career Technology Center.
“This
year my office received more pieces of artwork than ever
before, so saying this was a difficult decision is an understatement,”
said
Congressman Boehner. “I
want to pass
along my congratulations to Sara and all of the participants on a job
well
done.”
In
addition to the grand prize winner, every year Boehner’s office
selects a first place winner and the artwork is hung in the Speaker’s
Office. The 2013
first place winning
piece was “Sipping Starlight” by Julia Higgins from Lakota East High
School. To see a
