Beagle Pushes Program Sharing
Option for
Colleges and Universities
COLUMBUS–State
Senator Bill Beagle (R–Tipp
City) today introduced Senate Bill 69, which aims to streamline and
maximize
the Course and Program Sharing Network (Program Share). Program Share
allows
colleges, universities and adult career centers to share existing
programs with
one another in order to save on the costs of establishing a program
from
scratch.
“The
skills needed in today’s workforce are
constantly changing and becoming more and more technical,” said Beagle,
who
also Chairs the Senate Workforce & Economic Development
Committee. “A
robust course and program sharing option within Ohio’s higher education
network
will allow our training institutions to respond faster and more
efficiently to
the needs of local industry.”
The
legislation would move the administration
of Program Share from its current location with a brokering partner to
the Ohio
Board of Regents and provide incentive funding to encourage the
development of
program sharing agreements between schools. This new model will allow
revenue
generated to be divided entirely between the two participating schools,
as
opposed to the current arrangement, which pays the brokering partner a
portion
in each agreement.
Senator
Bill Beagle serves the people of Ohio’s
5th Senate District, which includes Miami and Preble Counties as well
as
portions of Montgomery and Darke Counties. To learn more, go to
