JobsOhio
employees well-paid in 1st
year

Four
people working at Gov. John
Kasich’s JobsOhio are paid more than Kasich gets to run the state.
President
and Chief Investment
Officer John Minor is one of three making $225,000 a year at JobsOhio,
according to a report released yesterday containing never-before-seen
financials for Kasich’s privatized economic-development agency.
Overall,
JobsOhio spent about $2.8
million on salaries in fiscal year 2012 — its first year of operation —
and
half of its 26 employees receive at least $100,000. Kasich makes about
$149,000
as governor.JobsOhio had about $12.7 million from private donations and
mostly
state-sponsored grants to work with in the year. Its primary source of
funding,
a complicated lease of the state’s liquor profits expected to provide
$100
million annually, wasn’t settled until recently.
Tasked
with getting businesses to
expand in or move to the state, JobsOhio filed the report with the
state on
Dec. 31 to fulfill state law and the agency’s contract. The Dispatch
made a
public-records request to see the report on Jan. 29.
JobsOhio
spent about $9 million
last year, including about $3.6 million to market the state and track
projects and
$150,000 to travel. The total is about one-tenth of what it will have
at its
disposal, now that it controls Ohio’s liquor profits…
