SCAM ALERT: Telephone Scams
Request Personal
Information
COLUMBUS,
OHIO – The Ohio Department of
Job and Family Services (ODJFS) is warning Ohioans about two identity
theft
scams targeting unemployment compensation claimants.
In
one scam, a telephone caller indicates that
a job is available but says the individual must provide a credit card
number
and other personal information in order to be hired.
In
another scam, a telephone caller provides
general information about unemployment compensation and then asks for
the
individual’s Social Security number and other personal information.
ODJFS
will never request credit card
information or a claimant’s personal identification number, and ODJFS
representatives always identify themselves by name, title and the
purpose of
the call. Ohioans should never provide this information to
unsolicited or
unknown telephone callers.
Ohioans
with questions about their unemployment
compensation can visit http://unemployment.ohio.gov or
call 877-OHIO-JOB.
