Senator
Beagle announces grant for safer schools
COLUMBUS
—Senator Bill Beagle (R- Tipp City) today announced the approval of
$12 million in grants to make Ohio school buildings safer.
The
creation of the School Security Grant program is intended to address
specific school safety needs across the state.
“Superintendents
across my district have indicated that costs for security upgrades
can be a substantial burden for them,” Beagle said. “Having
participated in the School Security Task Force, I am happy to support
this effort to ensure these upgrades will be made throughout Ohio.”
The
current state budget authorizes the reimbursement of up to $2,000 to
public schools for an emergency radio system or Multi-Agency Radio
Communications System to be located at the schools main entrance. An
additional $5,000 may be reimbursed for the purchase of security
systems consisting of security cameras, intercoms, and remote access
equipment for entrances at each eligible school.
