Pedestrian struck in Mercer County
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports his Office is investigating a
car / pedestrian crash. On November 19, 2013 Central
Dispatch received several 9-1-1 calls reporting the crash at 6:41 PM on
Clover Four Road in Franklin Township.
Deputies determined 58 year old Laura L. Reed of 309 West Fulton
Street, Celina, had stopped her 1999 Dodge 1500 pickup truck in the
east bound lane of Clover Four Road, east of Guadalupe Road. Reed
exited her vehicle and was attempting to corral two stray dogs that
were on or near the roadway.
Reed had one dog gathered and was standing near the north side of
Clover Four, in the westbound lane when she was struck by a westbound
Pontiac Grand Prix operated by 24 year old Kevin Schwieterman of 606
East Walnut Street, Coldwater.
There were two witnesses on the scene that stopped to see why Reed was
stopped and out of her vehicle. One of those witnesses was Barry
Niekamp, a Mercer County Deputy Sheriff, as well as a 17-year-old
Mercer County male.
Mr. Schwieterman was processed for operating a motor vehicle while
under the influence of alcohol, and found to be below the legal limit
of intoxication. Reed was taken by Coldwater Squad to Mercer Health and
later she was later flown by helicopter to Dayton.
Mr. Schwieterman was released and the crash remains under investigation.
