Attempted
pick up of young girl, dead body, vehicle fire and more
On
Oct. 3 a juvenile girl was walking home from school in the 800 block
of Washington Ave. when an unknown male pulled up beside her and said
“Does a pretty little girl want a ride home?” She shook her head
no and said no, backing up from the roadway. She picked up a stick
and kept walking. The suspect was driving a red sport utility
vehicle, possibly like a Toyota 4-Runner. It looked newer with
rounded sides. The suspect was a white male, mid 40’s, blonde hair
on the sides and the top bald. He was wearing a blue shirt and large
sun glasses. The suspect left the area southbound on Washington
Avenue. No potential witnesses remembered seeing the driver stop and
speak with the victim. The victim’s mother was advised to contact
police with any other information.
On
Sept. 26 police were dispatched to Greenville High School on a
missing student. Another student had advised the missing student was
planning to run away to New York or California. He reportedly was
meeting a friend at Taco Bell. Police were able to take him into
custody there and transported back to the high school. The juvenile’s
parents were called. Police searched the student’s backpack and
found three bottles of alcoholic beverages. The student admitted to
drinking alcohol the previous day, also that he had taken the alcohol
and the backpack from Walmart. The juvenile was transported to
Juvenile Court where he was issued three citations: Unruly Child,
Underage Possession of Alcohol and Theft.
On
Oct. 1 police were responded to a missing juvenile. He spoke with the
complainant, her sister. She said the juvenile had gotten into an
argument with her brother. She then said she was going outside to
watch her younger sister, and left the area. Police obtained a
description and located her, but when she saw the police she started
to run. Police eventually caught her and took her to Greenville
Police Department. She told police she left because she wanted to
clear her head after getting into a fight with her brother. She also
said she ran because one of the friends she was with told her to. The
juvenile was cited for being unruly and for resisting.
DEAD
BODY
On
Oct. 6 police were dispatched to 300 Front St. regarding a dead body.
A witness was sitting on the steps to the residence and advised the
deceased was inside in the apartment on the east side of the
structure. The deceased, Brandon Hampton, was found sitting on the
couch with his head down. Greenville Township Rescue entered and
confirmed the death at 9:45 p.m. The witness advised Hampton had
gotten off work and met some friends at a local bar. After the bar
closed they went to Hampton’s residence and continued drinking. The
witness further stated when he left, Hampton was “drunk to the
point of passing out.” He tried making contact with Hampton by
phone all day but was unable to, went to the apartment where he
discovered him. He asked his brother to call 911. The coroner
investigator and GPD detectives responded to the scene.
DUI
(DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE)
On
Oct. 3 police were dispatched to the Greenville Police Department
parking lot in reference to a possible OVI (Operating a Vehicle under
the Influence). GPD Chief of Police Dennis Butts observed a vehicle
driven by Bambi Gibson pull into a GPD parking space, travel over a
parking block and strike a 30-minute parking sign, damaging it. He
further observed Gibson reverse back over the parking block. The
driver put the vehicle into drive and drove forward over the parking
block. She reversed again, driving over the parking block. She drove
forward again, striking the parking block but not driving over it.
Chief Butts made contact with the driver and observed her to have
“slurred speech and slow uncoordinated actions.” A second police
officer conducted a field sobriety test to which she did poorly.
Gibson admitted to consuming prescription medication for depression
and was placed under arrest for OVI. She submitted to a breath test,
which showed .000 BAC. A urine sample was taken with her consent and
sent to Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab for testing. Gibson was
advised she could be charged with OVI, depending on the result of the
test, and released to her daughter.
DRIVING
PAST STOPPED SCHOOL BUS
On
Oct. 3 police were dispatched to the Greenville Police Department
regarding a vehicle driving past a school bus while it was dropping
off a student. The bus driver, Laura Price, stated she was at 1102 N.
Broadway with lights activated and stop sign out. She witnessed a
white van drive past the school bus traveling southbound. She
provided the vehicle’s license number and described her as an older
female with white hair. The vehicle belonged to Rebecca Saylor.
Saylor admitted passing the bus and the lights were activated but it
had not yet come to a stop and the sign was not yet out. Based upon
the witness statement, Saylor was cited for failure to stop for a
school bus.
VEHICLE
FIRE
On
Oct. 3 police assisted Greenville Fire Department in the alley behind
217 E. Fifth St. for a vehicle fire. At the time of response, the
fire was extinguished but police were advised earlier it had been
fully engulfed. The vehicle, a Ford Explorer, belonged to Dylan
Julian of 217 1/2 E. Fifth St. Also damaged was a Buick Park Avenue
owned by Robert Miller and his daughter Pamela. A witness advised
having seen approximately 10 white males, all approximately 20 years
of age. Their faces were not visible. The witness said they were
pacing around in the alley but were no longer there after the fire
started. The fire is being investigated as possible arson by
Assistant Fire Chief McDermitt.
ASSAULT
On
Sept. 29 police were dispatched to 156 Royal Oaks for a female that
arrived at the residence of Steve Gruber with a severe injury and
bleeding from her face. Greenville Township Rescue was attending to
the victim. She was badly injured, bleeding
from her face with her left eye being completely swollen. She was
incoherent when asked questions. The victim was transported to Wayne
ER for treatment where police continued interviewing her. According
to the report the victim said she had gone to the house of Ryan
Snyder to watch the OSU football game. Three females arrived, one of
whom was arguing with the victim. An individual at the party took the
victim outside and was talking to her. The victim then remembered
getting up from the ground, making a comment about the girls after
which one of them knocked her down again and began hitting her
several times. Snyder told police he had asked her to leave because
she had gotten drunk and was trying to start fights. He said she had
used a racial slur. The victim provided the names of the girls, who
will be contacted and interviewed.
ARREST
WARRANT
On
Oct. 3 police were dispatched to Wayne ER on an assault complaint by
Kyllian Mcnutt. At that time police learned through Dispatch there
was an active warrant out of Miami County Sheriff’s Office for
Failure to Appear for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
Mcnutt was transported to Darke County Jail.
