Updated Report Golfer and cart drop into
ravine, Careflight called By Bob Robinson
GREENVILLE – A golfer,
Chad Feirstine of Greenville, went over the crest of a ravine in a
cart driven by Wayne Chinn of Bradford and dropped approximately 25
feet into a creek at Turtle Creek Golf Course the afternoon of Sept.
16.
The golfers were apparently
unaware of the sheer drop of the ravine when they went off regular
path. When they were about 10 feet from the crest of the hill Chinn
tried to stop but was unable to. He jumped while Feirstine went over
the edge and was ejected about halfway down. He was found just
outside the water beside the cart.
According to Deputy J.
Pearson, Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Feirstine was coherent but
possibly had been briefly unconscious. He also had shallow breathing.
Another individual said he had been complaining of a hurt back.
Greenville Township,
Gettysburg Rescue and Careflight responded to the accident.
It is believed the golfers
were not regular players at Turtle Creek. One of them reportedly said
they were “goofing around all day and thought they could stop.”
They may have been going after a ball and chose to get off the path.
It is unclear if the cart had rolled over Feirstine during the fall.
Feirstine was transported
to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight with serious injuries.
