Assault
on a police officer, warrants served
GREENVILLE
– On Sept. 7 police dispatch received a call from a male subject
who asked for an officer. He was asked the nature of the problem and
began cursing. “Are you (blanking) stupid?” A Darke County
Sheriff’s Dispatcher said the individual had called them first,
that he lived at 407 Spring St. Police went to that address. The
caller was Michael Jacobs who began talking when he saw the police
but couldn’t be heard because there was a closed storm door.
Officers opened the door and asked what was going on. “I’m having
homicidal thoughts about the (blank) boyfriend of my sister’s.”
The officer entered the room; Jacobs asked him to pull out his gun
and shoot him. When advised that wasn’t possible he asked if he had
to hurt him in order to get him to do it. A second officer arrived,
agitating Jacobs. He continued to say he wanted to kill his sister’s
boyfriend and wanted an officer to pull out his gun and shoot him.
Jacobs was given an opportunity to voluntarily go to the hospital but
refused. Officers advised he would be taken against his will. Jacobs
stood up and backed into a corner. He had a lit cigarette and
threatened to burn the officers if they came any closer. One officer
grabbed the wrist with the cigarette; Jacobs then kicked him in his
thigh. He was detained and transported to Wayne ER for evaluation.
Officers filled out a pink slip. Jacobs had been drinking; his Blood
Alcohol Count was .197. A Darke County mental health counselor later
evaluated him. Jacobs signed a paper stating he would not harm
himself and was sent home. The report was filed with the Darke County
Prosecutor for charges of assaulting a police officer.
