Beagle Hosts
Memorial Highway Dedication
Portion of State Route 41 Honors Miami County Sheriff's Sergeant
COLUMBUS – State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City), hosted a ceremony
Sunday, August 17 dedicating a portion of State Route 41 in memory of
Sheriff’s Sgt. Robert “Bobby” Elliott. Sgt. Elliott, who spent nearly
15 years with the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, lost his life on
February 25, 1987 in the line of duty.
“Sgt. Elliott was a truly heroic individual, and it’s a privilege to
join with his friends and family as we dedicate this portion of highway
in his honor,” said Beagle, who sponsored the legislation for the
memorial highway.
The program dedicated State Route 41 between Troy and Covington as the
“Sheriff’s Sgt. Robert ‘Bobby’ Elliott Memorial Highway.” This portion
of highway was near the family’s home and where they attended church.
Sgt. Marc Basye of the Tipp City Police Department added, “I was
grateful to be part of honoring Bobby alongside his family and Senator
Beagle as Senate Bill 226 passed through the legislature. This is
going to be a proud day for the Elliott family and Miami County, and I
am glad to have helped Senator Beagle and Bobby's family bring this
project to fruition.”
