GPD arrests
suspect for Aggravated Robbery
On 08/02/14 at approximately 11:05 p.m., the Greenville Police
Department, with the assistance from the Darke County Sheriff's Office,
responded on a report of a burglary in progress. Just
prior to officer's arrival, the
suspect fled on foot out the
back door of the residence. The 90 year
old female victim reported knowing the suspect by a false name and had
been scammed out of money twice in the past 3 weeks by him. On
this particular night, the suspect returned and asked to use the
restroom and she refused. He then told the victim that he
had the money he owed her and she let him in the residence at
which time the suspect obtained a weapon from the house and began
threatening the victim's life if she didn't give him $40. The suspect
then took $2 the victim had in her Bible. The victim was able to
get out of the house and yell for help and was helped by a
neighbor. The victim was treated by Greenville Area
Emergency Rescue for non-life threatening injuries.
The Greenville Police Department quickly developed a suspect and on
August 4, 2014, arrested 53 year old, Greenville resident, Randy L.
Hofacker for Aggravated Robbery. Hofacker is being housed at the
Mercer County Jail.
On August 5, 2014, a 1st degree felony Aggravated Robbery complaint was
issued by the Darke County Prosecutor's Office and filed with the
Darke County Common Pleas Court.
