Tentative 2015
county budget a slight decrease from 2014
GREENVILLE – Darke County Commissioners were in a festive mood Dec. 17
as they handled approval of bills, expense requests and appropriations
transfers. They also noted the county’s budget for 2015 was close.
“Unless there’s some big surprise, it looks pretty good,” said
Commissioner Mike Stegall. He added Darke County Auditor Carol Ginn’s
job is a tough one… “It’s the hardest… I don’t know how she stays sane.”
In a later discussion, Ginn tentatively agreed about the budget. “From
the numbers I currently have,” she said, “it does look good.”
Emphasizing they were raw numbers at this point, she said estimated
appropriations for 2015 are about $17,215,000. Last year’s
appropriations were $18,613,776.06; she noted, however, $1,210,040.19
of that was the insurance money for the fire at the fairgrounds. “That
money had to come to the county… it was then moved to the Darke County
Fair.” Anticipated appropriations were realistically down a little
under $200,000 from the previous year.
“The budget commission is very careful about each appropriation line,”
Ginn said. The commission, which includes Ginn, Darke County Treasurer
Scott Zumbrink and Darke County Prosecutor R. Kelly Ormsby, “looks
carefully at estimated revenue,” she added. Once the budget is
certified it’s given to the commissioners to appropriate.
The commissioners noted during public session the cameras for the
sheriff vehicles had arrived and were in the hands of the Sheriff’s
Department. According to Darke County Commissioner Mike Rhoades, there
were 17. Two were paid for by the Darke County Prosecutor…
