Driver in
critical condition following single-car accident
On December 2, 2014 at approximately 8:58 AM Darke County Deputies
along with Liberty Township Fire, Tri-Village Rescue and CareFlight
were dispatched to the 3500 block of Palestine-Hollansburg Road in
reference to a one-vehicle injury accident.
Preliminary investigation revealed a blue 2007 Ford Fusion, driven by
Michael B. Karns, 20, Greenville, Ohio was southbound on
Palestine-Hollansburg Road. Karns failed to control his vehicle
on the ice covered roadway. Karns traveled off the right side of
the roadway striking a tree on the drivers side of the vehicle.
Karns was trapped in the wreckage for approximately 50 minutes before
being extricated by mechanical means. Due to the weather
conditions CareFlight was unable to respond to the scene. Miami
Valley dispatched their MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) to the scene.
Karns was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by MICU where he is
listed in critical condition.
The Darke County Sheriff's Office reconstruction team also responded to
the scene for further investigation.
