State
Senator Bill Beagle
Senate
Clears “Internship and Co-op Appreciation Day”
COLUMBUS–
The Ohio Senate today passed Senate Bill 227, sponsored by State
Senator Bill Beagle (R–Tipp City), which would name the second
Tuesday of each April as “Internship and Co-op Appreciation Day.”
“Internships
and co-ops provide students with exciting opportunities and insight
into new career possibilities,” said Beagle, who serves as Chairman
of the Senate Standing Committee on Workforce and Economic
Development. “The hands-on experience that accompanies these
programs offer future professionals a jump start into the workforce.”
The
bill would raise awareness of the value of internships and co-op
opportunities in Ohio as well as encourage businesses throughout the
state to offer additional program opportunities. Internships and
co-ops also benefit potential employers by giving them access to an
untapped talent pool without requiring a long term commitment.
Senate
Bill 227 now moves onto the Ohio House of Representatives for further
consideration.
