gets Community Control, MonDay program

GREENVILLE
– Julie Cockrell, New Madison, was sentenced to 60 months of
Community Control, along with the MonDay program, for Felony 3
Trafficking. Darke County Common Pleas Judge Jonathan Hein remanded
her to the Darke County Jail to await her admission to the program.
“It’s
one thing not to be productive,” Hein told the defendant. “To go
through the justice system you just ‘take’ – drain the system…”
He noted prior treatment, prior prison, prior jail time…
“There’s
nothing new here,” he said. “That’s sad. The only one who can
do what you said you’d like to do is you.”
Hein
included 120 days in jail, noting credit for 86 days served. He said
he was going to use the balance of the jail time to hold her until
the MonDay program could pick her up. Once she was on her way, any
jail time balance would be suspended.
Assistant
Darke County Prosecutor Deborah Quigley recommended Community Control
plus the MonDay program. David Rohrer, defense attorney, concurred,
noting she’d been honest with him and the pre-sentence
investigator.
“She
would be a good candidate,” he added.
Hein
pointed out the sentence was 60 month Community Control. The MonDay
program – if they take her – is an opportunity for her to get
help if she takes advantage of it. The sentence included $210
restitution, plus 400 hours of community service.
“You
can start that (the community service) at MonDay.” Acknowledging
possible health issues, Hein added she needed to think about getting
a part-time job afterwards. “So you can do something positive,”
he said.
