Moving
to or from California? Golden State is this year's most mobile
by
Sonya Sorich
California
might be a mobile state, but it's not a magnetic state, according to
one moving company's data.
Allied
Van Lines has released its annual Magnet States Report, which
evaluates moving patterns. With nearly 13,000 moves conducted by
Allied, California is this year's most mobile state, according to the
report.
But
compared to the data of previous years, more Allied customers moved
away from California.
"California,
which had moved to the inbound column in 2011 (No. 7 inbound) and
2012 (No. 8 inbound) has again dropped to become the seventh most
outbound state, with a net loss of nearly 400 moves in 2013,"
according to a news release from the company.
Allied
says Texas attracted the most new residents this year, citing a net
relocation gain of 1,914 families.
The
report only considers moves conducted by Allied Van Lines. The data
of other companies might tell a different story.
Consider
the results of the United Van Lines annual migration report, as
detailed by the Associated Press.
That
report calls Oregon the top moving destination for 2013. The state is
the fourth most-popular relocation destination in Allied's report.
United Van Lines does not list Texas among its top five moving
destinations.
United
Van Lines says New Jersey was the state with the most outbound moves
this year. Allied says it was New York.
