Husted
announces new Board of Elections appointments
COLUMBUS
– Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced the appointment of
176 boards of elections members. The new board appointees, half of
the 352 board members statewide, began their term on March 1, 2014.
His appointments for Darke County are: David E. Niley D and Terry L.
Haworth R.
“Serving
as an elections official in Ohio is both and honor and
responsibility,” Secretary Husted said. “I look forward to
working with each newly appointed board member to continue our work
to ensure that in Ohio it is easy to vote and hard to cheat.”
State
law requires bipartisan representation on each of Ohio’s 88 county
boards of elections. Each board is made up of two Republican members
and two Democratic members, all of whom must be qualified electors in
the counties for which they serve. The Secretary of State makes
appointments to boards of elections based on the recommendations of
the executive committees of the respective county political parties.
Terms for boards of elections members are staggered so that half of
the board, one Democrat and one Republican, are up every two years.
