GREENVILLE
– Bryan Wombolt, 27, was shackled as he came into the courtroom to
answer to four counts of Sexual Battery, a Felony 3. The former
Auxiliary Sheriff Deputy is accused of having an inappropriate
relationship with a Greenville High School student. Wombolt allegedly
met the girl as he was performing duties as a deputy while in
uniform.
The
defendant had little to say when answering the questions of
Magistrate Anne Brumbaugh. Aside from meekly answering yes or nodding
his head to the questions posed to him, Wombolt said his family was
working to get an attorney for him.
With
no attorney representing Wombolt at the arraignment, Brumbaugh
entered in a plea of Not Guilty on his behalf.
Magistrate
Brumbaugh pointed out he faced a maximum of five years and a $10,000
fine on each count. He is also subject to being labeled a Tier III
Sex Offender, which would require him to register with the Sheriff
every 90 days for the rest of his life.
Prosecutor
R. Kelly Ormsby III represented the state and asked for a $25,000
bond, electronic monitoring and supervision if he is released on
bond. Brumbaugh increased the bond to $50,000, and ordered contact
with his attorney every 10 days, and will require electronic home
monitoring, will need to report to adult probation and comply with
any orders for pre-trial services if he is released. She also ordered
he not have contact with the victim in this case and to obey federal,
state and local laws.
The
next step in the case will be a pre-trial conference on March 24.
