Vehicle, lawn mower accident
At 4:03 p.m., 9-1-1 operators at the Darke County Sheriffs Office
received a report of a car versus lawn mower accident in the 4700 block
of Children's-Home Bradford Road, just north of Greenville. After
receiving the report, dispatchers soon learned the lawn mower the man
had been riding had caught fire. Bystanders at the scene extinguished
the fire using hand held fire extinguishers until Greenville Township
Fire Department officials arrived at the scene.
According to Deputy Eric Hanes of the Darke County Sheriffs Office, an
investigation revealed 73-year-old Marlene F. Long of Greenville was
driving eastbound on Children's Home Bradford in a 2007 Ford 500, when
a lawn mower operated by Francis L. Wunders, 53, of Greenville pulled
into the path of the Long vehicle without looking and was struck.
Although CareFlight was initially dispatched to the scene, Greenville
Township Rescue personnel quickly determined Wunders injuries weren't
serious enough to warrant air medical transport. Therefore, Wunder was
transported from the scene by Greenville Township Rescue to Miami
Valley Hospital in Dayton. Long was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed
at this time.
