Charter
Schools Bill: A Moral Obligation & An Economic Imperative
WASHINGTON,
DC – Congressman John Boehner (R- West Chester) today issued the
following statement after the House passed – on an overwhelming
bipartisan basis – the Success and Opportunity through Quality
Charter Schools Act (H.R. 10), legislation to strengthen and expand
access to the successful Charter School Program:
“Providing
all students, regardless of where they come from, access to a quality
education is not just a moral obligation, it’s an economic
imperative. You can’t have a strong economy without preparing the
next generation to fill the jobs and drive the innovations that will
keep America competitive. Charter schools are a critical part of
that effort, providing parents and students more choices, and more
opportunities to escape underperforming schools. This bill will help
strengthen the Charter School Program, and make it easier for
successful schools to expand to new communities. It passed with
broad, bipartisan support, and deserves an immediate vote in the
Senate.”
NOTE:
Earlier this week, Boehner released a video message recognizing
National Charter Schools Week and talking about how this legislation
will help promote and expand charter schools in the 8th District.
