Boehner
Visits Fairfield’s Machintek, Inc.
Talks
Job-Training Reform and Local Economy with Constituents and Company
Leadership
Fairfield,
OH – Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today visited
Fairfield-based Machintek, Inc., a local contract manufacturer of
machined, fabricated, and welded components, where he discussed House
Republicans’ focus on solutions that will help grow the economy and
allow companies like Machintek to expand and create more jobs.
“I
ran a small business, and my attitude today is the same as it always
has been – I fight every day for a smaller, less-costly, and more
accountable government, so that companies like Machintek can grow
their businesses and create jobs right here in our local area,”
Boehner said.
“You
know, we’re seeing a ‘skills gap’ in this country that’s
preventing our workers from getting the skills they need for the 21st
century jobs they want. Right now, if you want to acquire new skills
to qualify for a good job, you’re up against a job-training system
that is a maze of overlapping programs and waste. I heard more about
this today during my tour of Machintek. That’s why – as part of
Republicans’ long-term jobs plan – we’ve passed the SKILLS Act,
a bill that streamlines and strengthens our job-training system to
make it more effective for those who need help. I’m urging Senate
Democrats to take up this jobs bill and get it passed as soon as
possible.”
“I
was very impressed with the knowledge Speaker Boehner has about metal
manufacturing and fabrication,” Machintek’s president, Roger
Hasler, said. “He appeared to feel quite at home around the various
work centers. I was happy to hear that Speaker Boehner recognizes
there is a shortage of properly trained people, available to hire, in
our industry and that we need better training. As manufacturing
continues its resurgence in the U.S., we will certainly have a need
for expanding our employment.”
NOTE:
The SKILLS Act (H.R. 803), introduced by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R –
North Carolina), was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on
March 15, 2013. It is one of dozens of House-passed bills that would
help create jobs and foster opportunity.
