Valdez Accepts Position in Wyoming
Edison Community College President Dr. Cris Valdez announced to the
campus on April 30, 2014, that he will be leaving Edison this summer to
become the new president of Central Wyoming College in Riverton,
Wyoming. Valdez has been Edison’s president since 2011.
When reached for comment, Valdez communicated confidence in the
direction of the College and its employees. “It would take an
exceptional and unique opportunity to pull me from this great
institution and Central Wyoming College presents that opportunity, both
personally and professionally. Edison is in extremely good condition
and on the cusp of many positive endeavors. We have a well-defined
strategic plan in place and committed and capable people to assist us
in realizing those goals and dreams. Just this week, preliminary
numbers from the Ohio Board of Regents demonstrated that Edison has the
second highest course completion rate among the twenty-three community
colleges in the state.”
Serving as Edison’s fourth president since its founding in 1973, Valdez
has been committed to revitalizing student success while also proving
to be instrumental in developing a strategic master plan and enhancing
regional industry partnerships.
“Shortly after Dr. Valdez arrived, the Board of Trustees asked that the
primary focus of the college be shifted from student access to student
success and student completion. We recognized that the college needed
to reaffirm its mission and create a strategic plan that gave priority
to student success and equity,” said James Thompson, Edison Board of
Trustees Chairman. “The excellent academic health of the college today
is a tribute to his success in moving the needles in the right
direction.”
“Under his leadership the College has taken giant steps in
strengthening existing, and creating new, partnerships and
collaborations with K-12 schools, businesses, employers, and community
organizations,” added Thompson. “Even though we regret his decision to
leave, we are grateful to Dr. Valdez for the strong, engaged leadership
team he has created that will carry the school forward in the future.”
Plans for future leadership of the College are currently under review
by Edison’s Board of Trustees and will be released at a later date.
