Roll-over
accident claims life of passenger, driver airlifted
Castine - On May 19th, 2014 at approximately 1:05 p.m. Darke County 911
received a call in reference to an injury accident in the 600 block of
US RT 127, which involved one vehicle. Darke County Deputies, along
with New Madison Fire, Tri-Village Rescue, and Arcanum Rescue were
dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Buick Park Avenue
operated by Everett S. Henn (84) of West Manchester was southbound on
US RT 127. Henn went left of center and traveled off the left side of
the roadway. Henn then struck a guardrail causing the vehicle to go
airborne and strike another guardrail. The vehicle then overturned
coming to rest in a deep ditch. Henn was treated by Tri-Village and
Arcanum Rescue before being transported by Careflight to Miami Valley
Hospital. Henn’s condition is unknown at this time.
A passenger in the vehicle, Phyllis E. Henn (79) of West Manchester,
was removed from the vehicle by mechanical means. Phyllis succumbed to
her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
US RT 127 was shutdown for approximately 2 hours during the
investigation. The Darke County Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction team
responded to the scene.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s
Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office.
