Faber Pays
Tribute to Army Cpl. Nathan B. Carse
COLUMBUS- Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) today honored fallen
combat engineer Army Cpl. Nathan B. Carse at a memorial highway naming
ceremony in Carse's hometown of Harrod, Ohio.
Legislation passed by the Ohio General Assembly designates State Route
309 from South Phillips Rd. to South Pevee Rd. in Allen County as "Army
Cpl. Nathan B. Carse Memorial Highway."
Carse died on February 8, 2011 in Kandahar, Afghanistan after
sustaining wounds inflicted by an IED attack on his unit. A combat
engineer, he was assigned to 2nd Engineer Battalion, 176th Engineer
Brigade out of White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.
"Nathan Carse left a successful career and loving family to serve in an
incredibly dangerous job as a combat engineer," said Faber. "This
Memorial Highway is a permanent reminder of his heroism and sacrifice."
Carse, 32, was working as an engineer when he felt called to follow in
the footsteps of his father, a former Green Beret, into military
service.
His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal, the
Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the
NATO Medal. He will also be posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal,
a Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct
Medal and the Combat Action Badge.
