Mercer
Citizen’s Academy Class
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced today that his office will be
hosting a Citizen Academy in October of 2015. The purpose of the
academy is to give residents of Mercer County the opportunity to see an
overview of Sheriff’s Office, and how it differs from other law
enforcement agencies.
This will be the second citizen’s academy for the Sheriff’s
Office. The first Mercer County Citizen’s Academy was hosted in
2013 and culminated in the graduation of eleven students. The
class consisted of students from different backgrounds, age groups, and
areas of Mercer County. The participants were provided with
instruction that included classroom time, hands on demonstrations, and
tours of the facility. The students were also given an
opportunity to ride along with a patrol deputy during their normal duty
shifts.
The 2015 academy will take place from October 13, 2015 until November
5, 2015, and will usually be held two evenings per week for a four week
period. The classes will begin at 6 p.m. and will last for 2-3
hours per session.
The academy is open to residents of Mercer County, who are at least 21
year old. A background check is required. Class size
is limit to 32 students. Interested persons can stop at the
Sheriff’s Office during office hours; visit our fair booth at the
Mercer County Fair, or go to our website at www.mercercountysheriff.org
to obtain an application packet. Completed applications need to
be returned to the Sheriff’s Office by September 4, 2015. If
anyone has any questions they may contact Citizen’s Academy
Coordinator, Sergeant Jay Wehrkamp, at (419) 586-7724.
