Faber begins
Second Term as President of the Ohio Senate
COLUMBUS– The Ohio General Assembly today held their Opening Ceremonies
for the 131st General Assembly, officially marking the beginning of the
new legislative session.
During the ceremonies, the members of the Ohio Senate unanimously
reelected State Senator Keith Faber (R–Celina) to serve as Senate
President. Faber has held the gavel of the upper chamber since January
2013. He is elected to the Senate from the 12th District in Western
Ohio.
“I have two reasons for doing the work I do in the Statehouse, and
their names are Adam and Brooke,” said President Faber. “My goal to
make Ohio the best and most attractive place to live, work, and raise a
family revolves entirely around my hope that every Ohio child has more
opportunity and a stronger future than was afforded to the last
generation.”
The Senate President is elected at the beginning of each two-year
General Assembly. In his role as President, Faber presides over
sessions of the Ohio Senate and serves as the head of the Majority
Party.
An attorney by trade, President Faber specializes in civil litigation
and mediation, helping courts and parties resolve matters without trial.
“The Senate has serious tasks standing before it today,” added Faber.
“Ohioans have sent us to the state capital to continue building
economic momentum, to improve our schools and to create safer
neighborhoods. Ohio is better today than it was four years ago, but
there is work still ahead of us, and we are ready to get to work.”
Before joining Senate Leadership in 2009 as Majority Leader, Faber
served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Insurance, Commerce & Labor
Committee, as a member of the budget-writing Finance & Financial
Institutions Committee, and as Chairman of the Senate Standing
Committee on Government Oversight.
The Presidential Oath was administered by the Honorable Sharon Kennedy,
Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court in the Senate Chamber of the historic
Ohio Statehouse.
Having reached his constitutional term limit, Faber’s term as President
and as a member of the Ohio Senate will expire at midnight on December
31, 2016.
