Senate President Keith Faber
Ohio Senate
Weekly Report
June 29-July 3, 2015
#1 A Balanced Budget is Signed Into Law
The state budget, signed into law by Governor John Kasich, gives nearly
$2 billion in tax cuts to Ohioans and makes significant investments in
both K-12 and higher education. “This is a balanced budget that
supports our vision for making Ohio the best state to live, work and
raise your family,” Ohio Senate President Keith Faber (R–Celina)said.
“It allows us to create an environment where our economy can grow,
where our children have access to affordable and quality education and
where we can put money back in the pockets of hard-working Ohioans.”
#2 Prohibiting Constitutional Monopolies
House Joint Resolution 4, sponsored by State Representatives Ryan Smith
(R-Bidwell) and Mike Curtin (R-Marble Cliff), would place a
constitutional amendment before Ohio voters to ensure that monopolies,
oligopolies and cartels are not created through Ohio's ballot
initiative process. If passed, the resolution would nullify any
proposed monopolies that may appear on the same General Election
ballot.
#3 Protecting the Rights of Ohioans to Fly the American Flag
Celebrate Old Glory this Independence Day. The Senate passed a bill
that seeks to protect the rights of Ohioans to display the American
flag, after receiving complaints from constituents whose homeowners
associations had demanded their flags be taken down.
#4 Keeping Ohio’s Roads Safe
Stay safe this holiday weekend on Ohio’s roads. The Senate also passed
a bill this week sponsored Senator Jim Hughes (R-Columbus) that
enhances penalties for distracted driving. “My goal is to encourage
Ohio drivers to be cautious when driving and to think of safety before
anything else,” Hughes said.
