big tech companies team up for digital spying reform
The UpTake: Tech companies like Apple Inc., LinkedIn Corp., MICROSOFT
Corp., Yahoo Inc. and Facebook Inc. have formed the Reform Government
Surveillance coalition.
Google Inc. and an ARRAY of the biggest U.S. technology companies
including Facebook Inc. and MICROSOFTCorp. are uniting to combat
government collection of some user data.
The effort, dubbed the Reform Government Surveillance coalition, is
being joined by other technology companies like LinkedIn Corp. and
Yahoo Inc., as well as civil SOCIETY groups and trade associations.
The group is asking officials to establish transparency and
ACCOUNTABILITY “to ensure surveillance programs are narrowly tailored
and subject to broader oversight,” David Drummond, Google's chief legal
