Beagle Receives Small Business Advocate Award

COLUMBUS– State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) today received the Small Business Advocate Award from the Council of Smaller Enterprises for introducing legislation requiring the state to notify businesses of tax overpayments and provide automatic refunds.

“I am honored to receive this COSE award. Senate Bill 263 was a vital step to make sure that Ohio is a business friendly state,” said Beagle. “These tax overpayments belong in our economy, not in the state’s treasury.”

The COSE Small Business Advocate Award recognizes elected officials that promote small businesses.

The need for Senate Bill 263 was uncovered after Ohio Inspector General Randall Meyer issued an investigation report that found that the Ohio Department of Taxation failed to refund more than $30 million in state taxes overpaid by businesses and often ignored requests for refunds. The law will now require these refunds to happen automatically.

Senate Bill 263 was signed by Governor Kasich in June of 2014 and went into effect last September.
