message: get covered or get penalized
GREENVILLE – “My concern is there may be people out there who don’t
realize they will be penalized if they have no insurance,” said Alexis
Denlinger, Family Health Care’s Certified Application Counselor. The
scenario, according to Austie Auker, Family Health’s Finance Director,
would be someone who hasn’t signed up goes to the emergency room due to
an accident or illness… they not only get billed for full payment by
the hospital, they get penalized by the federal government for not
having insurance.
And the penalty goes up significantly for those still not enrolled for
2016. The penalty for a family not enrolled in 2015 was $975 or 2
percent of their income, whichever is greater. The same family will be
penalized $2,085 or 2.5 percent if not enrolled for 2016. The message?
Get insurance...
